Allow me to introduce you to a passion of mine - the world of miniature animals.
This world, as I call it is a place, a secret place, I suppose, where one can discover those things about animals in a way that is not only fascinating but also enchanting.
I have loved animals for as long as I can remember. I have studied them, drawn them, been drawn to them, and found them a constant source of interest my whole life. I cannot explain the connection I have with animals, it simply just 'is'.
Dogs, particularly, have grown in my affections and have found a solid place in my heart - and my love for them is an unending passion.
As for the magical world of miniatures, I think the best way to explain it is the following: . I am not childish (at least not intentionally so) but so many days of my childhood were spent creating magnificent stories using my imagination and having model and miniature animals as my characters.
Stories like the Lion King inspired and drove my sister's and my imaginations as we replayed adventure after adventure, creating new stories with the same characters day after day. I remember spending so many enchanted hours playing this way - no television, no video games, just us and our imaginations, our love for animals, and the world revolving around us.
. I love animals. This world of animals in miniature is like a dream come true - I can behold, I can own, I can hold on to - the very things I love and admire so much. This creates a sense of reality for me, rather than unreality. The thing I prize most in model animal miniatures is this realism, this glimpse of holding a replica of hidden and magnificent beauty.
I see something so fine, something so..
magical in this world of miniature animals.
As an animal lover I appreciate the elegant, realistic contours, and as an artist and sculpture, fall over and over in love with well=crafted works - those which grasp hold of some place in your imagionation and trigger some long-lost memory. Perhaps it is childhood. Perhaps it is animalia.
But for me, it is a world of unspoken beauty, a world without life yet so wonderfully close to life.
Welcome to the world of miniatures.
Welcome to a world a world of colours, shapes and sights a world to remind us what is beyond busyness a place of beauty, stillness and calm A place of frozen statues that linger and remain where they stand yet beckon us as though they replicated life itself...
